Following its announcements of 5 May 2021 updating the New Industrial Strategy proposed in 2020, the European Commission has additional indicated that it will rely fairly heavily on industry to deliver on the most important challenges confronted by our economies and societies in Europe. This is especially the case in relation to sustainability, digital transformation, and world competitiveness, in addition to the necessity to overcome the crisis provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic. The EU Recovery and Resilience Plan launched in Spring 2021 is essentially constructing on the potential of European industry to design and produce the constructing blocks of the twin green and digital transition. At the identical time, the EU is shaping a dense regulatory framework that doesn’t at all times help the liberty and suppleness wanted for corporations to develop and compete globally.
The European expertise industries, and particularly our pumps, compressors, faucets and valves sectors, have for a long time thought of the enhancement of their global competitiveness within the challenges of societal and environmental challenges, notably by contributing to the preparation of vitality efficiency and ecolabel rules. In parallel, digitalisation has supplied increased alternatives and introduced new challenges, including debates on the suitable regulatory level (sharing of commercial information, synthetic intelligence, cybersecurity, etc).
These developments, amidst ever extra fierce worldwide competitors, require that public authorities and industry in the EU work more and more extra closely to design and deploy methods that reinforce our competitiveness and our contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This will be the subject of the preliminary debate kicking off our Joint EU Policy Conference, which can convey collectively key policy makers from the three EU policy establishments in charge of the Industrial Strategy and three Executives representing and illustrating the achievements enjoyed, and challenges still faced, by these three key sectors of trade.
Specific Technical and Policy Issues
As the regulatory landscape across Europe, and certainly the whole world, turns into ever more complex, the burden on trade solely increases. It therefore falls to sector specific trade organisations, similar to Europump, CEIR and Pneurop, to establish and advise on these technical and coverage points most related to their respective sectors. In our particular area, that relates, in fact, to the manufacture, distribution and use of pumps and all pump related equipment – an enormous and necessary subset of industry, given the width and breadth of pump purposes.
Against this backdrop, one of many primary concerns when determining the core themes for the joint convention was to hold up a direct reference to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Within this focus, the three associations intend to focus on how, along with the significance for companies to handle technical features impacting their daily enterprise operations, they contemplate the optimistic position of trade in addressing societal challenges. Indeed, all of the periods will have a technical theme matching the most acceptable UN SDG, and with illustration from the European Commission along with technical specialists from business and/or analysis institutes, they will each be reflective of the present legislative terrain, as it relates to pumps and pumping systems in the following key areas:
Circular Economy & Eco-design (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 12: Responsible Consumption and Production)
Industry’s Digital Transformation and Innovation (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure)
The restriction of use of supplies and substances of concern (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 6: Clean Water and Sanitation)
The regulatory and legislative panorama across Europe is changing into increasingly advanced, and trade, in all its guises, must be aware and ready for what’s coming. By partaking with those commerce organisations that characterize your greatest interests, you can maintain abreast of all the compliance developments as they have an effect on your corporation and the areas during which you operate.
